Stanley's Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Stanley, 13 month old, neutered male, pit bull/terrier mix, 39 pounds. Stanley is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Stanley plays hard; he's a rough and tuff kind of guy, but really enjoys playing as long as he is introduced slowly and appropriately to new dogs. He's got a fast and bouncy, high energy sort of vibe. He lives in a home with other dogs and has proven to do best when given time to slowly acclimate to other dogs - he can be selective and will bark at dogs but has not shown aggression. Stanley goes to the dog park and prefers to stay on one side with dogs he knows, as compared to meeting new (potential friends). Stanley has been around a few kids (ages 5-12y) with other temporary fosters while his Main Foster Mom has been out of town. The feedback has been positive but that he takes longer to warm up to men/boys, and given his energy level, he'd do best with kids over the age of 10yrs. No matter the age of kid, we typically advise homes with kids who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. We have no history with cats. Stanley is mild-mannered on the leash and walks calmly but does pull, clearly never having been leash trained. His foster mom is working with him on this but his new family may find that a harness or Gentle Leader head collar work better to manage his pulling. Stanley is fully house and kennel trained. He's proven trustworthy while in the house unsupervised (he's non-destructive and doesn't have accidents) but he does get the other dogs riled up wanting to play, so his foster mom crates him when they're not home. All dogs are fed separately as a rule of his Foster but she notes there have been no signs of aggression or resource guarding when another dog sniffs at his food while he's eating. He has no issues sharing toys, treats or bones and shows only moderate interest in people food. Stanley is active and loves to get his energy out, and would be best served with a yard of his own. He currently spends a lot of time in the backyard playing with the other dogs and/or would enjoy some dedicated play time. He enjoys walks and runs, playing ball, and having something to chew on. He doesn't need to have another dog in the house but it would be helpful, especially one of similar age and size, as well as energy level. Stanley is a bulldozer and plows into his foster siblings and things around the house. He's silly and goofy and an embodiment of the pittie personality (cuddly and affectionate especially at bedtime, dramatic and vocal, energetic and athletic). He loves water and will try getting into the shower or bath, even though the water is hot. He would thrive with a breed experienced adopter who is willing to pour time and attention into him, training and teaching him good manners. He would enjoy being a running partner and going on active adventures. We don't know Stanley's past but he is very cautious and reserved around men. There have been a few who he's met that he just never warmed up to, whether that is their demeanor or presence. His adopter should be willing to give him time to acclimate and allow him to set the pace of interactions while encouraging him to overcome his fears. He's a sweet boy who just needs the confidence to be the brave guy he is under it all. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him?
